Saint Mary’s University of Minnesota is a private, nonprofit institution. It was founded in 1912 by the Winona Diocese and is affiliated with the Lasallian Catholic tradition. Unlike public universities, which receive government funding, Saint Mary’s relies on tuition, donations, and endowments.
The university offers undergraduate, graduate, and professional programs across its campuses in Winona, Minneapolis, and Rochester, as well as online. As a private university, it has greater autonomy in curriculum design and admissions policies compared to public institutions.
