Choosing a Ripe Mango
Select a mango that yields slightly to gentle pressure, indicating ripeness. The skin should be fragrant and free of major blemishes. Color varies by variety, so don’t rely solely on redness.
Preparing the Mango
Wash the mango thoroughly. Stand it upright on a cutting board and slice vertically along the flat seed to remove both cheeks. Score the flesh in a grid pattern without piercing the skin, then invert to create ‘hedgehog’ cubes.
Eating Methods
Enjoy cubes with a spoon, peel and slice, or blend into smoothies. The seed’s remaining flesh can be nibbled. Learn more about mango varieties.
